Past_Meets

Since the November 2007 BBMUG meeting we’ve done our best to document any discussion, demonstration or question that’s cropped-up. For those unable to attend that meeting, these documents are a great way to find out what was missed, whilst for those who could get along, they should prove to be great a great resource, featuring links to applications, sites and topics discussed that month.

Below, you’ll find a quick summary of the topics covered at each meeting. Minutes are available (unless otherwise stated), but will only be sent to BBMUG members who have paid their subscription fees.

June 2009
With the planned Apple Store visit moved to July, this month’s meeting was quickly arranged, and held at our usual venue – The Cadbury Heath Social Memorial Club.

The evening started off with a welcome from Vice Chairman Martin, as Jeremy was away, and then proceeded with a Screencast covering the new Keynote ’09 package. Following that, secretary Rob gave a short demo on Quick Look, before we paused for a 15 minute break.

The session concluded with a 30/40 minute talk from Jen, covering the basics of Final Cut Pro.

May 2009
Another busy meeting. This month we covered transforming your Mac Mini into a media centre, Safari 4 Beta, and Screencasts Online.

An extremely busy and productive meeting. Here we appointed our admin team, decided on subscription prices and meeting fees, and almost managed to get everyone to approve the group constitution.

Once the important business matters had been taken care of, Rob gave a Keynote presentation on Open Source Software, and Adrian gave another Mac ScreenCast, this time covering working with large and small monitors.

March 2009
This month’s meeting was held at the Apple Store, Cabot Circus, Bristol, where the staff gave us a fantastic demonstration on Aperture, a powerful application that enables the user to edit, organise and display photos easily.

February 2009
With Martin putting in so much time and effort on the new BBMUG web site, we thought it was time he demonstrated to the rest of us what he’d been up to. So, after the welcome speeches and notices had been done and dusted we were all treated to a complete lowdown of the new all-singing, all-dancing web site.

Following that, Rob ran a segment devoted to gaming on the Macintosh, and showed-off puzzler, World of Goo, platformer, Archibald’s Adventures, puzzler, Big Kahuna Reef, and point and click title A Vampyre Story.

The meeting concluded with a number of Mac ScreenCasts, thanks to Adrian, including one on Automator, and another on WebClips.

January 2009
Our first meeting of 2009 was the best attended BBMUG meeting we’d ever had. This was no doubt down to the quality of our speakers, who were Ken Bell and Kevin from Quad Logic Systems, based in Bristol.

Ken and Kevin explained how they got into the Macintosh side of computing, and Kevin presented a detailed overview of Final Cut Pro and CatDVPro, an app which works by analysing the metadata within a file, and using that to aid your searches through audio, video, image and text files.

This evening also saw the first break between sessions, where members of the group swapped tips, tricks, and generally helped fellow users out of problems they’d got themselves into.
